Welly Walk - Monday January 2nd
The Shelley Welly Walk originated from the early days of the Village Hall, 1978 to be exact, when it was imperative to raise money.
It was thought that it would be a good idea to have a sponsored walk, however the person who put this forward also suggested that the event took place on New Year’s Day, possibly with the hope that it may blow away a few cobwebs and anything else left over from Christmas and the New Year celebrations.
And so it was to be.
Since that first walk the event has taken place every year on the 1st of January starting at 10am from the Village Hall.
The walk covers about 8 miles of footpaths around the village roughly following the village boundary. How long it takes to walk doesn’t really matter but it is usually done in organised groups.
