Walkers still do get sponsorship but it has become more of a social event now.
On return to the Village Hall hot drinks and soup are waiting for the walkers.
Why is it called a ‘Welly Walk’?
Simply because that is the most suitable footwear to have when walking the footpaths of Shelley in January.
It does get rather ‘boggy’ at times but the walk has never been cancelled even when there was six inches of snow!
A couple of interesting facts about the keenness of the walkers.
In 1983 120 people went on the walk and in 1979 we had the hardest winter for 15 years and even then over 40 people took part.
